FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Oshkosh Rotarians Host International Rotarians at AirVenture Oshkosh

Oshkosh, Wisconsin, U.S.A., July 28, 2015 - On Wednesday, July 22nd Oshkosh Southwest Rotary Club hosted fellow Rotarians from around the world for its 30th Annual Flying Rotarian Picnic at EAA AirVenture. Nearly 200 Rotarians enjoyed a Wisconsin style bray fry and corn roast inside the Nature Center pavilion.

The International Fellowship of Flying Rotarians (IFFR) had close to 75 people in attendance from all over the world from the state of Oregon to Russia. The IFFR is a group of Rotarians dedicated to promoting Rotary and aviation as an opportunity for fellowship and service.

“This is a great event to have year after year. It gives Rotarians a chance from all over the world to gather and share their passion for Rotary and aviation,” said Matt Bakalars, Southwest Rotary International Service Chairman.

After lunch, attendees heard Eddie Ogden and Glenn Leonardi members of the flight crew for the new Goodyear Airship speak about the history of the company’s airships. The spoke about how Wingfoot One is the first of Goodyear’s new generation of semi-rigid airships. First flown in spring 2014, the airship was manufactured by Germany’s ZLT Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik and assembled by a team of Zeppelin and Goodyear engineers. It represents the first major structural change of a Goodyear airship in nearly 70 years.

EAA AirVenture attendees had the opportunity to see Wingfoot One perform in various air shows and meet the Wingfoot One pilots at a variety of events ranging from autograph sessions to forum presentations.

Thank you to volunteers who made this picnic possible. A big thank you to Festival Foods in Oshkosh for providing the food and staff to help make this event run smoothly.

Oshkosh Rotary Southwest is a service organization that meets every Wednesday for lunch at Robbins restaurant in Oshkosh. The club’s 110 members raise and donate almost $150,000 annually for local, national and international causes, and they have a lot of fun doing it!
