News Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Oshkosh Southwest Rotary "Changing of the Guard"

Oshkosh, Wisconsin, U.S.A., July 9, 2015 - There was lots of laughter and a few tears when Oshkosh Rotary Southwest said good bye to its 2014-2015 President Nicole Peterson and welcomed its new President, Tom Kloekner, at its annual "Changing of the Guard" celebration on July 9th at the Waters. The club enjoyed the beautiful setting and beautiful weather with a glass of "anything with Barcadi Limon" compliments of the outgoing President, who is partial to the flavored rum. Despite the complimentary drinks, Southwest Rotary did not let the old President out easily. Following tradition, the program for the night kicked off with the Board roasting the outgoing President.

Club members also enjoyed the annual "Rotary Year in Review" from past President Craig Burnett, where he recounted all the events of the 2014-2015 Rotary year. The celebration is also a time to honor club members who have served the club above and beyond the call of duty.

Autumn Urban was Rotarian of the Year, Karlene Leatherman was New Rotarian of the Year, and Jeff Hackbarth was the Silent Rotarian of the Year.

Other awards included:

  • Service Above Self Award: Kathy Hanson
  • Dennis Fletcher Memorial Award: Jessica Benesh
  • Board of Directors Service Awards:
  • Craig Burnett, Steve Poeschl, Mark Stockli, Dan Buttke, Todd Slagter, Patty Shea and Jeff Potts
  • Helping Hands Awards: Craig Burnett, John Hobbins, Ken Friedman and Shelly Hurzeler
  • Past President Award: Lori Davis

In spite of all the fun had at her expense, Nicole graciously thanked the club for an unforgettable year, "Thank you to all who made my year as President the most amazing year ever. I appreciate all you did to help move Rotary forward. My goal was for all of you to leave Rotary thinking ‘I am glad I came to Rotary today – I had a great time!’ I look forward to continue to be part of this fantastic organization and can’t wait to see all the great projects we have grow and continue to make an impact on our community, our world and ourselves. Thank you very much for the opportunity to be President of such an amazing group of people."

Oshkosh Rotary Southwest is a service organization that meets every Wednesday for lunch at Robbins restaurant in Oshkosh. The club’s 110 members raise and donate almost $150,000 annually for local, national and international causes, and they have a lot of fun doing it!
