Introduction
With approximately 7,000 students participating each year, Rotary Youth Exchange has
more students exchanged each year than any other organization.
Oshkosh Rotary Southwest's District 6270 is a part of Central States Youth
Exchange, one of sixteen districts in the mid-west. Central States combines their efforts, and is able to offer 46 countries for students to pick from.
Exchange Program Highlights
The year long exchange requires that the student attend school, and complete eleven months, to qualify as an approved exchange. The host Rotary club guarantees $50 per month allowance, school uniforms, school books (but not supplies), school lunches, and school transportation. The host family will provide meals, a study area, and a bedroom. The student may share the room, and will be expected to help around the house, as other siblings do. Rotary may provide between two and four families, to vary the experience.
Students between the ages of 15 1/2 and 18 at time of departure are encouraged to participate, if they are in the top half of their class, and are not taking prescribed depression medication. Check the application for details on specific countries, and age limitations.
Extra travel opportunities may present themselves through out the year, but the Rotary club, or district does not have to provide for these trips. Parents are not to burden the club, or host family, and are not encouraged to visit the student, or travel. Rotary must grant permission prior to parental trips.
Rotary does not guarantee school year credits, and each student must make arrangements with their school district in writing.
Central States Youth Exchange has approximately 220 students departing each year, and can not guarantee a specific country selection.
The student must agree to accept the assigned country.
